Upcoming Events

Magpie Books isn’t just a cozy independent bookstore in downtown Longview WA—it’s also a vibrant community hub. We host regular book clubs, arts and crafts workshops, and current events discussions right here in our historic storefront. Whether you're looking to connect with fellow readers, get creative, or dive into meaningful conversations, our Longview bookstore events are open to all. Check back often—we’re always adding new ways to gather, learn, and grow together.

It was important to us, when we opened our store, that we create a unique space in our community that fosters free thought and creativity. Thats why our events are all about academic discussion, friendly conversation, and good, old fashioned arts and crafts!

Join us for our book clubs, knitting circles, or riveting discussions with guest speakers. All are welcome!

Current Events Club

The news is a lot. So instead of spiraling alone, we meet every Wednesday at 5pm and talk it through.

We discuss current headlines and world events with curiosity, honesty, and just enough dark humor to survive the timeline. No shouting matches. No cable news vibes. Just real conversation with real people trying to make sense of it all.

Once a month we pick a nonfiction book and read it together throughout the month to add context beyond the chaos.

Come think out loud with us. If we don’t laugh a little, we’ll cry. 🖤📚

Horror Book Club

If you like your stories unsettling, a little unhinged, and occasionally sleep-ruining — this is your group.

We meet every 3rd Thursday of the month to read horror in all its forms: psychological slow burns, haunted houses, monsters (human and otherwise), and the kind of books that make you double-check your locks at night.

It’s thoughtful discussion with a side of “why did I read this before bed?” energy. We’ll talk themes, fear, symbolism — and yes, that one scene we can’t stop thinking about.

Come get spooky with us. The lights will be on. Probably. 🖤📚

Romantasy Book Club

Magic. Longing. At least one emotionally unavailable man with wings.

We meet every 4th Thursday to talk about fantasy romance in all its forms — from epic, high-stakes kingdoms on the brink of collapse to cozy, low-stakes cottage magic where the biggest drama is who’s baking the bread.

Expect big feelings, questionable fictional crushes, and zero judgment for getting attached to characters who do not exist.

Come for the romance. Stay for the chaos. 🖤📚✨

Thriller Book Club

Love a good twist? The kind that makes you flip back three chapters and mutter, “Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me”? Same.

We meet every 2nd Friday of the month to read thrillers packed with secrets, bad decisions, unreliable narrators, and at least one character who absolutely should not be driving the car.

It’s sharp conversation, overconfident predictions, and that one person who claims they “knew all along.” Sure, you did.

Come dissect the drama with us. Trust no one. Especially the quiet ones. 🖤📚
